Running CFB National Signing Day Thread

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by KevinmH9, Feb 4, 2009.

  1. Also, Notre Dame landing T'eo is a huge get for Weis. Whether the kid ends up being what they say he is, it gives the staff some of its credibility back with future recruits, particularly on defense, where they've struggled in recruiting. The thought was that things were going downhill there - and they were - but now you've got a bowl victory and this recruiting catch. Changes the whole disposition of the program.

None of which is to say that Weis can actually coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

Solid article on CBS sportsline on the stupidity of Nat. Signing Day. If you want further proof go back a few years and check the ratings of some of the top college players and recruiting classes and compare them to how their teams finished last season.

And what's the deal with the Fax machines. Is this the only thing they're used for anymore? You'd think a simple e-mail would suffice. Anyone think Notre Dame maybe doesn't get the Hawaiian kid if they don't play their bowl game there?
And I do think signing day is good for one thing, figuring out which schools might on the way up and which ones might be on the way down. Sarkesian ended up with maybe two in-state players with the top-rated ones heading out of state.

Doesn't matter, Dan. The football fan still wants to know who he's going to be watching the next five years.

Brock Berlin was the No. 1 player in the country. He had to transfer to win a starting job.

He was a major-college level player and has put in NFL time. Definitely not your best example.

Waylon said " The five-star, can't-miss kids often do end up being five-star, can't-miss players". Brock Berlin was hardly a five-star player whether he played major college ball or hung around the NFL for awhile. Same with Lorenzo Booker.

Go back to the 2006 recruiting class and Mitch Mustain was the #1 QB and Vidal Hazelton the #1 WR and both are now on their second schools. Not five-star careers so far.

As a college student and a former high school football player of some note, I find this say to be utterly ridiculous.

Who needs actual on-the-field titles anyway? The recruiting title will do.
