Skied off-course for his eighth DNF in 16 World Cup events today.

It's a slalom. I think he's already finished as many this year as he did all of last year when he won the World Cup. He doesn't ski under control. It's why he goes so freaking fast in the downhills, and why he crashes out so often. Since slaloms tend to reward consistency (two runs), when he does finish one, I do a little dance.

P.S. spnited, the reigning World Cup overall champion is certainly relevant, whether you follow the sport or not.

Funny, this is the second time I've heard his name today after not hearing it twice in the past two years. Well, maybe that's a stretch, but ...
Just read a pretty good story on him in Men's Journal that discussed how he's matured and even quit drinking, apparently, and it talked about his skiing out of control. His early coaches tried to change his style, but he refused because he grew up doing it that way, and he knew that's what made him successful. Pretty good stuff.
P.S. I tried to provide a link, but their site was down.

He got hurt earlier this season and I don't think he is quite right yet.
