Edit: Should have listed Hawaii in front of Georgia, in hindsight.

A guy at work last night came up with an interesting argument with these 7 teams:

    Ohio State
    West Virginia
    USC
    LSU
    Oklahoma
    Missouri
    Kansas

    1) eliminate those who didn't win their conference title games: Missouri and Kansas.

    2) eliminate West Virginny for uber-choking against Pitt, though it wasn't so unexpected (they shot their wad v. Conn)

    3) eliminate USC because of its loss to 41-point dog Stanford

    4) that leaves 3 teams, one-loss Ohio State and conference winners Oklahoma and LSU.

    5) that means Ohio State should play Oklahoma or LSU. So, how do you pick between the two? LSU's two losses both 3-OT losses and Oklahoma ... well, the Sooners have arguing points, too.

    It was an interesting theory.

Nah. That game would be (will be?) Georgia by 40.

The thing about Hawaii is the same thing about Boise last year against Oklahoma. Sure, we can say Hawaii would be pounced on. But most said that against Boise last year and look what happened. Not fair to project an undefeated team to lose by 40 to Georgia, USC, LSU, Ohio State, etc., even though the laws of college football nature say otherwise.

Maybe Hawaii should play in the title game. Why not? Can you imagine how captivated the country would be with a Hawaii v. Ohio State? Mainland against the islanders? I'd tune in just to see what kind of voodoo the Wahinis might pull off.

    Xan,

In that instance, you put a fourth team back in and have a pseudo-four-team playoff.

OSU-LSU and SoCal-Team 4. One gets the BCS title. Other gets AP.

No offense, 2much, but hasn't this season shown us all that you simply can't say that with any kind of certainty? And, in the absence of being certain about that kind of thing, don't you HAVE to go with the team that went undefeated?

And that, generally speaking, is how we'll likely have an OSU-LSU title game, right? LSU getting the nod over OU because its two losses came in triple OT, it spanked what now looks like a pretty good Va Tech, and it emerged victorious in the "SEC death march." Seems reasonable.

georgia kicked the crap out of boise state in 2005.

hawai'i's toughest game was...who? would the rainbow warriors have beaten florida by two scores?

    i'm sick of this mid-major kool-aid.

Nick Saban and Lloyd Carr completely agree with you.

King, the point is, why not give undefeated Hawaii a chance. They did end with a 21-point rally victory over a Pac-10 team (regardless what you think of Washington; the worst Pac-10 team is still better than 80 percent of the dreck out there). If it's ratings and drama the BCS folks want, go with something that will bring in money. The entire country will watch Hawaii v. Ohio State. Imagine the TV revenue (which is really what it's all about).

True, after all the crazy shit we've seen this season I don't know how anyone can just presume the bigger conf school would crush the smaller.

Honestly, how many people were saying the exact same shit about the idea of putting Boise State in a BCS bowl at this time last year? I remember hearing it everywhere: "they'll get crushed by 50, the game will be farce", etc. Then they beat OU in one of the greatest games ever, and suddenly the same people are lamenting that they didn't have a shot at the national title. Same old shit, nothing learned.

So, what does everyone think about instituting a salary cap in MLB?
