The Yankees have been pretty clear they intend to make Joba a starter. They have Vizcaino for the set up man, and he has done OK - not perfect, but pretty good. Given the age of the Yankees starters, having a quality person in the rotation is a bigger need. From reading Cashman's comments, I think the idea of Joba being a starter gives the Yankees more opportunity to protect and nurture his arm. I think nobody in the Yankees organization expected Joba to be able to do what he is doing so quickly.

It would take a collapse of epic proportions, considering the Mets remaining schedule:

at Nats and Marlins, then home to ... Nats and Marlins

The way they played over the weekend, they're capable of losing to anyone. And Brian Lawrence and Mike Pelfrey are pitching the first two games in Washington.

Well, take heart in this indisputable fact: If the Phillies get within a half-game of the Mets, they'll do what they do best ...

Wow. The Mets have a four-run lead. That's neat.

Well, that was fun while it lasted. Down to a two-run lead after Fick's RBI single.

For the love of God, will the Orioles learn how to hit?

  12. if the Phils let Rowand walk without a fight, they really don't want to win.
