Leonard Hamilton should be ACC Coach of the Year. It's long overdue.

On his podcast, Andy Katz interviewed Tony Bennett and told him Bennett was Katz’s pick for COY. Ridiculous.

No question Tony Bennett is one of the best in the country, and is as likely as anyone, given the age of the other established coaches in the league (K, Roy, Boeheim, Hamilton), to carry the torch long-term.

And Virginia has gathered it up in the last month for which Bennett deserves credit. But Florida State has, for the umpteenth season it seems like, surpassed expectations. Part of that is because talk of top ACC programs doesn't seem to include the Seminoles often enough. But Hamilton has earned the nod. Yes, he's won the award twice. But not in eight years ... and Florida State has been more than decent since.

Tennessee has always had a pretty good record against Kentucky in basketball all things considered; so I was really stunned to see Rick Barnes is the first UT coach to win twice in Rupp Arena.

Tom Izzo has been at Michigan State for 25 years and has been Big Ten coach of the year three times — 1998, 2009 and 2012
He won’t be this year either
    Steve Piekell will
    Deservedly so
Izzo can console himself with a Big Ten title share and top seed in the tournament with a win over Ohio State Sunday

Wow, BYU is up to No. 9 in the NET. And Dayton absolutely annihilated Rhody last night, only needs to beat George Washington at home to become the first Atlantic 10 team to go undefeated in the regular season since ... George Washington in 2005-06.

Not surprising really since Kentucky is 610-78 in Rupp and Tennessee has won a total of just six games against Kentucky there since the place opened in 1976 -- and two of those wins came in the Vols' first three games there, in 1977 and 1979.

Such a crazy B1G season with teams being great one week and lousy the next, and for much of the season almost no one won on the road unless they were at Northwestern or Nebraska. But now that the dust is settling it's getting back to normal with Sparty atop the mountain.

I've only Michigan State play one game this season -- that win over Iowa a week or so ago -- and they looked pretty damn good in that one. They've won two difficult road games since. I suspect they'll be a tough out in the NCAA.

They’re getting consistent play from Aaron Henry and Rocket Watts to help Winston and Tillman
    That wasn’t happening earlier

As a Rhody fan, they've really crapped the bed down the stretch. They went from a near-lock to pretty much needing to win the A-10 tournament to get in.
