    But seriously ...

Austria out in first round of voting. Final is Sochi against Pyeongchang.

I think it's going to be Pyeongchang, though Sochi/Russia is more deserving.

Kinda hard to believe Russia has never hosted a Winter Olympics.

And for purely selfish reasons, I'm REALLY hoping they get this one.

You have the world's greatest national anthem and a country that has only two seasons: July 4 and winter.

That place was made for the Winter Olympics.

    Maritxou? Soooo hot.

But soooo much jibber-jabber. Announce it already.

Guess it's time to start looking into that second job.

Sochi winning means St. Petersburg is out of the race for the 2016 Games. I didn't even know it was in.

    That eats it.

    Congrats to Sochi.

And as an aside, it's only 400 days until the Beijing games!

    Mighty close to Chechnya.

I saw a story on CTV about the Sochi bid and the city did not look ready as of a few months back. Actually there was nothing in the city, but the plan was to make the city a resort type of place.

The odds on favourite was the South Korean bid, but I am glad that Russia will host the Olympics.

Nothing like the underdog taking the cake and eating it too.

About the Beijing Games: this will be the last games that CBC in Canada will be the rightsholder for as CTV has secured the rights to the next few games, including Whistler 2010. I am sure that the Canadian sj members will agree that it will be major shoes for CTV to fill as CBC's coverage has been top notch for the last many years (especially with CBC's focus on amateur sports).
