I think he'll be up at some point and he is more ready to make an impact than those others.

Hamilton is interesting. He could make an impact right now as a part-time player and pinch runner. The guy is damn near unstoppable on the bases, but I don't think he is ready as a hitter. He could help the major league club now, but he is probably better served spending the season in the minors learning.

So why can't we change this thread title to "Spring training?" The hot stove was turned off when the last box was packed for Florida or Arizona.

Hey, what about all the rumors coming out of Texas that has Nolan Ryan's role diminished or erased entirely? Fort Worth paper broke it, but brass is denying it with the exception of Ryan, who isn't speaking.

At least one spring training thread has been created, but for some reason people keep posting in this one.

    Here's the spring training one:

I've seen Hamilton live 4-5 times, in the AFL last fall and now in spring training. He is a tour de force on the field — you hear him hyped so much by reputation ... and then he lives up to it in person. He's so exciting to watch. He comes up to the plate and there's a quiet buzz in the crowd. Then when he gets on first base, there's an audible buzz. I haven't seen anything like it since Rickey Henderson.

But he's got some serious flaws at the plate right now — the good news is, all of them can be corrected. The Reds are pushing him to be more patient, draw more walks. Learn to be more Rickey and less Willie Mays Hayes. He likes to swing the bat and he falls behind in the count a lot. And he doesn't have power like Rickey, so he's going to have to rely on singles and gappers, and using his speed to get on base (and get around the bases.) Which he can do.

He's also not close to ready as an outfielder. His speed makes up for his inexperience, but he was a shortstop until the Reds told him to start playing the outfield in the AFL last fall, so he really does need at least a full season in the minors to learn how to play center field. He can go get any ball from foul line to foul line, but there's a lot more to it than that.

The Reds brought in Eric Davis as his personal tutor this spring, and by all accounts, Hamilton is doing everything he can to soak up the knowledge. Davis knows his stuff (and was a SS-turned-CF himself), so that's a great sign.

That certainly fits in with everything else I've heard and read about him. Pretty much unstoppable on the bases, but not ready with the bat or the glove.

Teixeira out 8-to-10 WEEKS, rather than 8-to-10 days as originally reported:
