    Eastern Conference:
    1} Montreal vs.
    8} Boston

    Canadiens in five.

    2} Pittsburgh vs.
    7} Ottawa

Senators in seven, especially if Baby Jesus isn't 100 percent there.

    3} Washington vs.
    6} Philadelphia

IMO, that playoff run exhausted Washington. Flyers in five.

    4} New Jersey vs.
    5} New York Rangers

I nearly went with the Rangers. Devils in seven.

    Western Conference:
    1} Detroit vs.
    8} Nashville

    Red Wings in six.
    2} San Jose vs.
    7} Calgary

San Jose douses the Flames in five.

    3} Minnesota vs.
    6} Colorado

Better shopping (The Mall of America, after all!): Wild in six.

    4} Anaheim vs.
    5} Dallas

It's easier to take Anaheim seriously now that they've rid themselves of the silly Disney moniker. Ducks in six.

If Colorado had not won today, I would have picked the Flames to beat Minnesota.

  4. Old school, Mr. 'beat.
I'm seeing the shadows of Beliveau and Cournoyer on the ice right now.
    Say goodbye, Bruins.

    No Richard, my Irish brethren?

A second round Montreal-Pittsburgh matchup will be highly entertaining.

  6. I was just a touch young for the Rocket, believe it or not.
Beliveau was my first Canadien hero. Him and the Gumper.
Tell you the truth, I don't like that Pittsburgh matchup much.

I will mention once again that the only sports autograph I have is the Rocket's who signed, in my friend's living room, my copy of The Rocket by former Toronto Telegram sportswriter Andy O"Brien. This was about 1961 or '62.

His handwriting was meticulous, and it says "With Best Wishes, Maurice Richard".

As far as I'm concerned, I have the hockey equivalent of Babe Ruth's autograph.

Gump. I'm going to name my first kid Gump. And I never saw the Gumper play.

FB, did you see Lecavalier play Beliveau in the Richard movie?

  9. I haven't yet. although JR and HC told me the whole production was tres bien. It's interesting casting.

Well, if it means anything, I loved the film.
