I'm on vacation and just got hold of some Kraken Black Spiced Rum. I think it's pretty good. My guess is it't not top end and I'm not a regular rum drinker but having it straight is going down nicely.

Just don't steal Jo-Bu's, and you'll be OK.

On the advice of the interweb, Kraken and cream soda kicks butt.

I am also a big fan of Sailor Jerry. Too big a fan. I'm having a tall one as we speak.

    Dark/black -- Kraken
    Light -- Cane 10
Flavored -- Parrot Bay or Cruzan Passion Fruit
Other -- Cachaça, which is a Brazilian spirit that shares much in common with rum. Haven't drank enough to have a go-to brand, but hope that changes in the coming years.

Havana Club. There's nothing better. Of course I can only get it when I go to the Caribbean.

The lime-flavored Parrot Bay is actually quite good.

Can drink it straight, or mix with damn near anything.

In the once in a lifetime because it's really fucking expensive bourbon category, you find Pappy Van Winkle. Holy shit was that smooth. A little outside of my price range, though.

I think it gets its name from how most people can only afford a bottle once every 20 years
