It depends on the program. The problems I've had as far as football go have been with the smallest programs in the area. I cover a football hotbed, and sometimes the tiny schools have the wrong attitudes and don't cultivate the media, thinking that the media will just flock to their games and deal with any situation.

The only time I was truly burned - not just scrambling, but truly screwed - was with a high school soccer team that left early. I have a wonderful set of colleagues in the office, though, and they backed me up. I didn't sleep that night.
