You've had some bad experiences I take it?

And it is indeed homophobia in many of the cases I've experienced -- "I'm a grown man, I shouldn't have to share a room with another grown man. This isn't the YMCA." A direct quote.

And all of these "reasons" comes off like whining by a bunch of pampered prima donnas -- the kind of crap that soils newsrooms everywhere.

I've had to share rooms in the past at smaller papers and frankly I found a way to adjust and I survived it.

Not "I'm a grown man and I am afraid someone will try to stick his cock in my ass" but "I'm a grown man and don't appreciate roomies and sleepovers." I hate sharing a room for a number of reasons, first and foremost I like to get work done in the motel after hours. If I have someone in the room with me I feel like an ass for keeping them awake (but that doesn't stop me, not my fault them stuck someone in a room with me).

Dude, seriously...you wear parachutes for those leaps of logic?

People have very valid reasons for not wanting to room with ANYONE, regardless of sex, and it has nothing to do with worrying the night will end up the plot for a gay porno. I'm also pretty sure that most of the people who have spoken up on this thread would rather room with someone and cover something than not cover it at all. I've done it, and I'd do it again, presuming the world spins off its axis, of course.

I don't have a problem if the paper is trying to save a buck and wants to put us together (which happens more often than not anymore).

I do have a problem when the individual I'm traveling with wants to stay up until all hours and tell stories about the "good old days," or the last time they were in that city.

I'm sorry, but ear plugs reminds me of the time I nearly drowned in the kiddie pool.
