He's probably on one of the Ping islands.

  2. One of the reasons why it would be OK to support Paul even if you don't agree with his personal views is that he wants to reduce the power of the Federal Government to affect how one expresses or acts on such views. Forgetting for a second that that is pretty much impossible, the bottom line is that in his world, if you leave people alone, they'll leave you alone and a lot more would be left up to the states. He's vehemently anti-abortion, but he doesn't want the Federal gov't to outlaw it. He feels that's a state issue.

Personally, I see no reason for states to have different laws on important issues and I don't like his thoughts on the border problem or isolationism. But I wouldn't mind lower taxes and less government bullshit. And anyone who could actually end the Iraq war would get my vote. I don't actually support Paul, but some of his ideas make sense and some of his supporters are quite intelligent. Earlier in the campaign, he was the best protest vote around, but that's pretty much a moot point now.

Additionally, Paul says he didn't write those racist newsletters. They were apparently produced by someone working on his behalf. He did a pretty shitty job of managing the crisis that came out of them, but for what it's worth, he says those aren't his words: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01/10/paul.newsletters/

When a champion of personal responsibility has no idea that someone's spewing racist bile with his name in huge type on the masthead, that person is either a) lying or b) an idiot. Either way, it doesn't reflect well on Paul.

  5. Being a liar or an idiot seems to be an important part of being president. At least for the last 15 years or so.

But yeah, Paul's politics have him associating with a more outwardly sinister type of person than your typical politician who just takes money from corporations behind the scenes.

Kinda like playing Dungeons and Dragons, it's a lot of fun when you don't have to take reality into account.

The final third of the libertarian package doesn't work with a large, diverse population and an enormous range of incomes.

    In Switzerland, it can work.

And socialism has worked so well wherever it was in place ...

I walked past a house this morning with a Ron Paul sign up. They didn't shovel their walkway or put ice down. That home owner really takes the whole personal responsibility thing seriously.

Isn't the city supposed to do that? What do they refuse to pay taxes for?

Not on the walkway from the bordering sidewalk, to the front door. That's the owner's responsibility.
