I regret to relay news of Ron's death at age 61. He was a regular here under his pseudonym.

I met Ron when I was 19 and he was 10 years older, a long, long time ago and certainly a different era in newspapers. A genuine, no-nonsense guy and as good and as passionate a newspaperman as you could hope to meet. I will miss him.

    This makes me very sad.

I grew up in Teaneck voraciously reading Ron, Vinny DiTrani, Bob Kurland & all the other legendary guys in the Record. What a great staff & tremendous section that sparked my love & obsession with newspapers.

Couldn't wait to get home from school and pick up the paper and study every damn word they wrote.

RIP to a total pro. Deepest condolences to friends, family & colleagues

I'm dedicating my roto team to you this year, Ron. I know you'll hate it wherever you are.

See ya when I get there.

Condolences to Ron's family and friends here, and everywhere.

Being a West Coast guy, I wasn't familiar with his work, but I'm always saddened when a colleague in this business dies. RIP.

BTW, what was his screen name on this board?

Wow, this is news I didn't think I'd hear.

    RIP Ron

(MP, I won't put his sj name on here. I'll let the moderators decide that. But it's definitely a name you would recognize. He'll be greatly missed around here).

I am not sure what the protocol is on that. I'm not sure Ron would mind, but I suppose Moddy should make that decision.

This is a little scary for me, given that my father is the same age.

RIP to a good newspaperman and from everything I've heard, an even better guy.

Yeah, this is someone everyone will recognize, to put it mildly. Damn damn damn.

Oh. Shit. This just hit me like a 2-by-4 between the eyes.

Ron was the perfect conscience for this sandbox and someone who I liked from the start. I was lucky enough to meet him on an SportsJournalists.com escapade in New York four years ago. He was gracious and friendly to this West Coast interloping flack from the outset.

    RIP, Ron. Miss you already.
