I couldn't remember whether I-90 made it up out of Chicago or stayed below the border the whole time.

West By God has I-70 running through the northern panhandle, so it's out.

Upon further review ... Dixiehack is correct, leaving North Dakota and Vermont.

I'll say Maine, because I don't think anyone else has. Though I'm pretty sure I'm wrong.

    EDIT: And I am.

Utah has 70, Montana has 90, for those keeping score.

Never driven that stretch, but I don't doubt it at all. On the other hand, I think the stretch of I-10 from Lafayette to Baton Rouge to New Orleans is pretty cool. If you're coming from the north, though, it's better to take 190 (part of the Acadiana Trail) in Opelousas to BR before hitting I-10. More interesting than the I-10 stretch between Lafayette and BR.

I'll see you that stretch of 10 and raise you Mobile to Jacksonville.

Oh, that's a shitty stretch, all right. But at least Pensacola and Tallahassee break it up a little.

In West Texas, whatcha got? Kerrville. Fort Stockton. Junction, which they made a movie about (it was discussed here one time, I think.)

    Texas is far worse.

West Tejas is pretty rough. I once drove from Amarillo to San Angelo.

My secret is to drive it at night. That way you can't see the desolation. And the stars out there will slap you in the face.

I-10 from Alabama to Tallahassee, and from Tallahassee to Jacksonville, is awful, especially at night, but my vote for worst drive is I-49 in Louisiana, the three hours between Shreveport and Lafayette. There's one exit about every 30 miles; run out of gas along this stretch and you may not be found for weeks.
