    Whatever happened to Gretchen Corbett?

She lives in Portland -- and looks like this:

A two-hour Rockford! After the premiere of Quark!

NBC was really hurting back in those days. Rockford was one of the few decent shows it had.

That one had Dennis Dugan in it. Maybe he can direct the new series.

    Mr Ace,

I'm sure they'll ask him and he'll say: "The thing of it is is ..."

I don't think they used the original theme in the 1990s reunion movies. My guess they would re-do it with somewhat of an alt-country or rockabilly edge.

Gretchen Corbett was in a couple of the reunion movies, and looked nice for her late 40s (she's 61 now).

Here's her daughter, Winslow Corbett, who's 29/30, and could at least get a casting call as Beth Davenport:

PS, Gretchen and Winslow Corbett are (as far as a cursory web search can show) no relation to John Corbett, one of my nominees for Jim.

Who is looking somewhat Rockford-ish in this semi-recent pic.

Adapting/updating the theme song is never a good idea. Better to stick with the original or go with something completely different.

I'd go with a new theme song, with maybe the main guitar riff dropped in a couple of places to provide a connection to the original.

But no, do not redo the original theme with a "hip-hop beat" or have the boy-band of the moment remake it.

Plus, the whole concept of TV theme music has changed since the 1970s. They used to use theme music to pretty much swamp the soundtrack -- any moment there wasn't live dialogue on the screen, they'd drop in part of the theme music.

Better yet, find a key point in the new series to drop in the old music. They did that on the new Battlestar Galactica in the series finale and it really worked well.

You have to acknowledge the old series somehow, but doing it in small doses works best.

    I loved Quark!

In related news, I was 8 years old.

    Mr Cook,

For your benefit, the last intro ...

BTW Man of the People and My World were both great series -- have had them on my facebook profile as my favorite shows.
