I was reading his blog today and it occurred to me that Mr. Neyer has probably had a greater impact on how fans, and baseball front offices view the game today than any other writer in the game's history.

Though he didn't "invent" it, it was Mr. Neyer that brought sabermetric analysis to the masses with his groundbreaking ESPN column, starting in 1996. Invaluable tools for statistical analysis like OPS and VORP and Range Factor were unheard of 15 years ago; our understanding of the game was almost primitive in the pre-Neyer world. The 'Moneyball' style of player evaluation that first took hold in Oakland and has spread throughout MLB front offices can be traced directly back to Mr. Neyer. The language of the game, how it's viewed, how it's played, etc has changed so much due to his influence. A bust in Cooperstown surely awaits him

Anything less than a full statue would be an injustice.

Neyer's (and Bill James') Cy Young Predictor on ESPN has Zack Greinke eighth in the AL. Obviously, he's revolutionized the game.

Has he decided on the flannel shirt he'll wear for his Cooperstown bust?
