Doubtful, he could easily pick up 7 mil a year as the warm up act for Oprah

Cashman said the other day the plan was and remains to put Chamberlain in the starting rotation.

True, but when I heard that, he said that was assuming they could bring Rivera back. He left the door open for Chamberlain to stay in the pen if they lose Rivera.

Disregarding the Torre talk for now, I really hope they don't make Chamberlain a closer. You can find a good closer a lot easier than you can find a top-fight starter, and a Hughes-Chamberlain-Kennedy trio would be madness.

I thought it was a mistake to make Dave Righetti a closer, this would be a bigger mistake.

That's why Cashman is treading lightly. On paper, the Yanks' staff could be one of the best in the AL next year. Torre knows that, too.

It could be a great rotation. Or it could be a mess again. Hughes, Kennedy and Chamberlain still have a lot to prove as major league starting pitchers. Chamberlain hasn't even started a game yet. Obviously, the ability is there, but opponents just haven't had that many opportunities to see these guys yet.

Of course, Hughes could end up on the 60-day DL, again.

Chamberlain at the end of the year was no more effective than Brandon Morrow was at the beginning of the year for the M's. As the year wore on, Morrow began to develop control problems, especially from the stretch. The M's now plan to convert him to a starter with a stint in Venezuela over the winter and some intensive spring work.

Does Chamberlain currently have more than two effective pitches? And what are the most innings he has pitched over the course of a season at any level? These things take time.

Chamberlain was always a starter in the minors until late July when they converted him at Class AAA because the Yanks were desparate for relief help.
He also was on a 75-pitch count for most of his starts at Class A and AA this season before moving up to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
He supposedly has 4 pitches but didn't need to use the curve and change much as a reliever.
He still might be a year away as a starter.
