    Forty-eight. Holy shit.

Vaughn McClure, a member of ESPN's NFL coverage team since 2013, died this week at his home near Atlanta. He was 48.

McClure joined ESPN to cover the NFL, and he settled in on the Atlanta Falconsbeat as part of NFL Nation. He covered the team during its run to Super Bowl LI in 2017. He contributed to ESPN's television and radio coverage of the Falcons and the NFL as well.

"We all loved Vaughn," said John Pluym, senior deputy editor for digital NFL coverage at ESPN. "He had a heart of gold. He was so helpful to our reporters. In the last few hours, we've heard so many stories about how Vaughn had helped them with a story or how he put in a good word for them with a coach or player."

McClure, ESPN Falcons reporter, dies at 48

McClure previously worked at the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times, Fresno Bee, South Bend Tribune and DeKalb Daily Chronicle.

Wow. He was all over Arthur Blank's housecleaning of the Falcons last weekend. Do we know cause of death?

On Twitter, John Branch has a very nice tribute to Vaughn.

I'm continually blown away over how much talent rolled through the Fresno Bee from the early 90s through today. Carzano. Katz. Woj. Branch. McClure. And one of McClure's successors on the basketball beat left the paper to become PTI's "stat boy."

Didn't know him, but he sounds like a great guy, gone too soon. May his memory be a blessing.

Worked with Vaughn briefly and he was great. Worked to set up a 1-on-1 with our starting QB and always hyped you up. A stunning loss.

RIP, young man -- emphasis on "young." Dammit, that adds to the hurt.

I am trying to understand why this “wisecrack” has been permitted to stay on this “board”?

    It is very insensitive.

This would be awful at anytime, but it's compounded reading about how much loss he and his family had already endured. RIP.
