Vada Murray, a free safety at Michigan in the late '80s and early '90s who prepped at Cincinnati Moeller, died yesterday after a long battle with lung cancer.

Vada overcame the stigma of being a Prop 48 and went on to have a great career. He went on to become a highly respected Ann Arbor police officer. By all accounts, he was a great guy.

He got lung cancer even though he never smoked. And, he stayed in shape.

Here's the annarbor.com link, with a link inside it to an Ann Arbor News profile of his fight from 2008:

    RIP, Vada.

He was the responding officer when my girlfriend's apartment was broken into back in 1993 or so. Very nice guy. Also a very good player.

    Sad news.
