The last match I ever watched was the Ultimate Warrior vs. Macho Man. Crazy to think both of them, as well as Miss Elizabeth are gone.

What a fucking awful lede in the Washington Post's obit:

    Also, this dreck:

I don't expect some random reporter at the Post to be an expert on pro wrestling, but I do expect someone completely ignorant of it to not pretend otherwise.

The WWE couldn't use the dude's real name in their announcement?

Warrior IS his real name. Has been since the early 1990s.

He legally changed his name to Warrior a couple years ago.
    Like for real.

    Well, that's kind of pathetic.

I guess? The WWE actually owns the trademark for a lot of wrestling "characters," like the Ultimate Warrior. That way, you can't go to a rival promotion and bill yourself as the same character. If you're a huge star like Steve Austin or Rocky Johnson, you can try to negotiate the rights back when signing a big money contract. Warrior, a.k.a. Jim Hellwig, sidestepped it by legally changing his name.

Yeah, it's like they took a pre-written Hulk Hogan obit and subbed in "Warrior" for all the Hogan references.

The Ultimate Warrior had a terrible on-mike persona and wasn't much of a wrestler from a technical standpoint. But he had an incredible physique --- especially for the time --- so for some reason people loved him.

Sadly, there's probably a pre-written Hogan suicide obit from a few years ago.

It's the way of the world but still strange when the announcement of a man's death comes in a 40
    character tweet.
