    i suggest reading his book, "five o'clock lightning." good read.

    I am supersurprised he was still alive. I grew up hearing about Old Reliable from my dad, among others. Great, underrated ballplayer, I believe from what I have read, who hit for average and had some pop in his bat and was considered a very good fielder. RIP.

    He has a big part in a Halberstam novel I read a long time ago.

    He was my mom's favorite player when she was growing up and I felt sad breaking the news to her this morning.
