I suppose there will only be television with pity from now on:

    This is a shame.
I have followed some incredibly nuanced discussions on TWoP over the years.
There were a ton of really smart people on the site.

Agreed. Great site. I'm still ticked off at TV Guide for ruining jumptheshark.com. Why buy one of the sites if you're not going to do anything with it?

    Stringent moderation there.
You talk about a troll problem.
That team of moderators suffered no fools.
On TWoP if you did not bold the respondent's name, you could be disciplined.
The geek reality shows (Frontier House, Manor House, etc) generated some incredible discussion.

I loved the recaps over there. Was definitely pretty sad when I heard it was going away.

I will share in the blame for this. I read the hell out of their recaps of Lost and some other shows, but I hadn't even thought of the site in a few years. Had some great stuff there, though.

This crowd would tear apart The Real World.
Some of the best snark I've seen in my years of message boarding.
I am really sad about the demise of the site.

Pamela Ribon's brutally funny thrashing of The Real World: Philadelphia remains one of my favorite things the internet has ever given us. Ribon, in general, is awesome. She's moved on to other things — books, screenplays, Etc.— but she'll always be my favorite TWOP recapper.

    A real bummer.

This. I haven't read about a show that much since. LOST was my last "obsession" show...although I do watch The Walking Dead as such. I just don't "dig in" as much as I used to.

    That was a good site.
