Damn. One fine hockey player, and from all accounts a really nice gentleman.

Interviewed him in 2011, sharp as a tack and dressed to the nines. We talked about his days playing junior in the mid-40s - which he remembered with great clarity - and a little about the game today ("I see a lot of dumb hockey players out there every night"). He said he still worked out in the Red Wings dressing room.

Fun facts: Lindsay was the first to take the Stanley Cup for a parade lap around the rink (in 1955) and his father Bert was the goalie for the ill-fated Montreal Wanderers, who played four games in 1917-18 before folding due to a fire that claimed their arena before playing the next season for the Toronto Arenas. He is among those who are credited with designing the hockey net as we know it today.

    RIP Terrible Ted

How about that. Can you imagine HoF inductions in any sport today without the obligatory shots of friends and family?

And there aren't many good nicknames in sports like "The Production Line" anymore.

wives and families were not allowed to attend...

why on earth was that ever a rule? They bring in hookers and blow and get freaky deaky or something? Bizarre.

The story of him getting a death threat and then taunting the Maple Leafs fans by pretending his stick was a machine gun after scoring the winning goal was a real hoot.

    RIP

Read the Clarence Campbell stuff. The guy whined that a 39-year-old came out of retirement. They weren’t exactly enlightened back then.
