    Didn't Napster predate Itunes?

But if Apple is the reason for the Ipad and the Iphone and it's ilk, then Jobs does deserve a big thank you.

To me, iTunes gets way more attention compared to the iPod. For me, the iPod was the lifechanger, not iTunes. My CD collection of thousands of CD's is now portable. Napster never did THAT.

iTunes legitimized and popularized downloading music, which made it a more acceptable way to purchasing media. Napster was popular because it filled a void in the early days of downloadable music, but it had an air of disreputability about it (is it piracy or not? are you getting the song you think you're getting? are you downloading viruses and malware?). Even in the early days of iTunes, they still had to get over that perception hump. Now it's well in the rearview mirror, and the brick-and-mortar music store is fast becoming an anachronism outside of speciality shops.

I am stunned by the veneration of a company. Thought we would have learned something about that by now. He's practically been beatified.

Interesting tidbit that Palo Alto police were apprised of Jobs' pending death ahead of time, so they could plan security at his house. He lived in a "modest, for a person of his means" house in a normal neighborhood in the heart of the city. Just by being in that city the house was worth millions of dollars, no doubt, and he had other properties too. But the lifestyle and the lack of a gaudy estate makes him very unusual for the tech set. He never made a ton of money by CEO standards either, and if there was one guy who truly deserved it as a difference-making executive, it would be him.

Expect an increase of Apple stickers on the back of more Prius.

The Times has gotten a look at Isaacson's biography.

Details on how he fought the cancer, and how he planned for the end.

A stunningly gorgeous eulogy of Jobs by his sister, who he didn't meet until they were adults:

This is a great example of what happens when there's an isolated clump of folks looking to reflex to obvious news, and sharps willing to accommodate them -- at advantageous prices.
