RIP Skip Caray

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Moderator1, Aug 3, 2008.

  1. Skip would always banter back and forth with guys in the truck like Diamond or Richard Croaker (whom Skip would often refer to as "Hollywood" Dick Fontaine :D).

Of course, the viewer would only hear one end of the conversation, but for some reason, I always found that amusing.

    These two stories were great.

I think the Caray moment I remember most is not Cabrera or the WS clincher, but Otis Nixon's catch against the wall in July 1992. Skip went apeshit after that.

    Wow:

<i>"There were days in the hospital when I could sleep," Skip said, "and I thought, 'I wonder if I'm gonna wake up?' Which is not that bad. (Dying) is a natural part of living. Nobody's dodged it yet.</i>

<i>"But," he said, smiling, "I'd like to keep dodging for awhile."</i>

    <i>For now, "Every day's a blessing," Skip said. "I'm not religious, but every morning I wake up's a blessing."</i>
