    AP News Alert just moved.

    Mount Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary has died.

    RIP to a great explorer.

    You're thinking Tenzing Norgay, the Sherpa who helped Hillary reach the summit of Everest. He died about 20 years ago.

    RIP to someone who -- along with Chuck Yeager, the Mercury astronauts and the Apollo crews -- were among the 20th century's greatest envelope-pushers.

    I was pretty sure you said last fall that you had Hillary's signature. Pretty cool deal. I read Into Thin Air just last month.
