TMZ is reporting that Rue McClanahan died at 1:00 a.m. after a massive stroke.

I read a few months ago that after McClanahan had her (first?) stroke, Betty White sent her flowers and a card that read, "I hope you die, so I can be the last Golden Girl."

No word on whether Abe Vigoda put her up to it.

    Oh well. RIP.

Betty was the one who was supposed to play Blanche, given her penchant in playing the vamp and being snarky on MTM.

Abe wouldn't put her up to do that! Michael Corleone would have had Abe whacked.

Wasn't there one member of that cast who was hated by everyone else? I think it was either Rue or Betty White, IIRC.

Does this mean Ruth won't be hosting SNL next year?

I'm so sad. I grew up with that show. I looked forward to those nights as a pre-teen then as a teen going over to my grandmother's house and watching that show when it came on Saturday nights.

Along with the rest of the cast, Rue was an indelible part of my growing up years.

RIP Blanche Devereaux. Much love always.

And in your memory, I have "Edge of Seventeen" playing.

Which Southern Belle actress/character who died this year was greater: McLanahan's Blanche or Dixie Carter's Julia Sugarbaker?
