    She was friends with Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X and received the Frederick Douglass Award in 1970 from the National Urban League.

    I think Donald Sterling received this award in 2010.

    I always remember her as Mother Sister from Do The Right Thing. I loved her scenes with Ossie Davis.

    She was also great in American Gangster.
