    Sirs, Madames,

    I was a huge fan of the Capital Gang. Crossfire was hit and miss ... some shows great, others less so. Capital Gang was all guns blazing. I always had a sense that Mark Shields abhorred Robert Novak's politics but considered him the greatest guy to hang around. I suppose he'd say that the outrage of this week is that the Plame thing will get all the play in his obits, his career epitaph.

    I may not agree with his politics, but there's no denying what he brought to the table.

    Loved his last book, warts and all.

    Rude guy, often. Astonishingly self-centered. Could be caustic like acid, when drunk.

    But a talent. Glad I got to see the show.
