RIP Rick Camp

I dozed off around the 5th inning and woke up to Camp's homer. And the Braves had high payrolls because they were the paradigm for "Picking up players: you're doing it wrong." Just from that box score, a ton they picked up who were over the hill when they came: Claudell Washington, Rick Cerone, Chris Chambliss, Bruce Sutter, Ken Oberkfell. Of course, the Mets equaled that just by having George Foster.

 

I was just out of high school and had been out with friends that night. Got home after midnight (central) and noticed the game flipping through channels. Figured it must be a west coast game running late, then saw it was Braves/Mets. Probably wouldn't have watched it for long but happened to turn it on right before the Terry Harper home run to tie it up. At that point I was sucked in, and ended up watching the rest. The entire thing just had an odd vibe to it, to the point where a fireworks show for a couple hundred people at 4am seemed like an appropriate finish.

 

Oh for fuck sake some assholes just love to argue for argument's sake.

For a Southerner, Braves fan, yes, Rick Camp hit one of the most famous home runs in baseball history. For jesus fucking christ it's a fucking Internet message board so I assume some asshole always has to pipe up and add absofuckinglutely nothing to the conversation by having some sort of adult na-nu-na-nu-na-nu moment like a seven year old and complain about someone else's fucking innocuous opinion but good God it's time some of you give it a rest for the sake of everyone else.

Oh, and RIP Rick Camp.
