Happened a couple years ago right outside my apartment building. I was eating lunch and heard a small bump. Looked outside, and there was a car stopped on the side of the road. Somewhere around the stop sign across the street, the old lady driving the car just up and died. I went outside to see what was going on, and got there before the paramedics covered up the car. It was weird to see her just sitting there.
Fortunately, it was a lightly traveled road that time of day and no one else was hurt. I guess the car just rolled through the stop sign and came to a rest across the intersection.

WKYC in Cleveland now trumpeting that it is the only media outlet in Cleveland not to report her dead.

Something similar to this happened to Terry Johnson, the late longtime baseball writer for the Daily Breeze, and later, the ASE of the Antelope Valley Press.

He was driving to Dodger Stadium to be the official scorer, had a heart attack on the freeway and died of the injuries he sustained in the ensuing accident.

Like Matt McHale, it was another example of a class act and true newsman dying way, waaaaay before his time.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) — A Cleveland Clinic official says Democratic U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio has died.

Clinic spokeswoman Eileen Sheil says Tubbs Jones died at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm that burst and left her with limited brain function.

The 58-year-old Tubbs Jones was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress and a strong critic of the Iraq war. She suffered the hemorrhage while driving her car in her east side district Tuesday evening.

We're slow, but steady!

 

Watching CNN this afternoon, and seeing the story change from "she's dead" to "she's not dead," reminded me of Payne Stewart's crash in '99. Fox News was first to report that he was on the plane, then retracted the story before it was, in fact, confirmed. It's a horrible detail to get wrong, and it's happened again.

 

PD says "Whoops"! But the anonymous sources said she was dead, even though her family members didn't:
