In a few years it'll be former Saban disciples. Hopefully they have the same kind of results as Bear's successors.

Perkins was still coaching up until a few years ago. He spent a couple of years as the head coach at Jones County Junior College in Mississippi, and might have worked as a volunteer assistant at one of the high schools down that way.

I’ll add a hint. What do Ray Perkins, Hugh Freeze and Gus Malzahn have in common?

There was also Gene Stallings, who had little success in St. Louis/Phoenix.

He had a great run at Alabama, though. He was everything Alabama fans hoped Ray Perkins would have been. They still love him there.

I hate Bama, but Gene Stallings was cool.

Perkins coached the Giants to the playoffs for the first time in 15 years. As a young fan, that was the single greatest football thing ever. I remember he carried Joe Danelo off the field on his shoulders after beating the Cowboys to clinch.

I remember the year when Stallings and the Tide won the title, and there was one AP voter who had Alabama No. 1 all year — hell, for all I know, maybe that was someone on this board . And that's the extent of my Gene Stallings info.
