Norman Lear laid down word that his sitcoms should have theme songs which were at least passably funky or soulful.

1 -- Harrington was a patient in the dental office where my wife used to work. All the staff felt he was delightful and it was fun when he came around. RIP.
2 -- Agree on all counts on Bertinelli.

The ability for CBS to get six plus seasons out of admittedly middling shows (NDI) is one of the great mysteries of our time. ODAAT was one of the proverbial hammock shows, in that it never had a timeslot that didn't end in 30.

Kotter, and it's not that close. Although Good Times was pretty damn good too.

    Old school theme songs (60s):

    1. Car 54 Where Are You?
"There's a holdup in the Bronx, Brooklyn's broken out in fights. There's a traffic jam in Harlem that's backed up to Jackson Heights. There's a scout troop short a child, Kruschev's due at Idlewild ... Car 54 where are you?"
