Would not have been on the short list in 1969 of people expected to die at a ripe old age in 2011.

Lost now on the country miles in his cadillac

Blow the horn, tap the tambourine ...
Close the gap on the dark years in between.

Fare thee well now, you let your life proceed by own design

    RIP, Augustus O. Stanley

Funny you should call up this line. Although Owsley was better-known in connection with LSD, in fact he spent most of his adult life as a sound technician in the Bay Area, primarily with the Grateful Dead, and he was one of the best. If I'm not mistaken, he was the one who designed the "Wall of Sound" that the Dead took on the road in the early-to-mid 70s.

    RIP, Bear.

You are exactly right. He also recorded many of the Dead's early shows that have since been released, helped design the Steal Your Face logo and was the inspiration for the dancing bears logo.
