Wow, not exactly the thread I wanted to wake up to.

    RIP to a legend.

Myron Cope wrote a profile of Howard Cosell for SI in the mid-60s, one of the best sports stories I've ever read.

That's the one thing I hope doesn't get forgotten about him.
He was one hell of a writer.

  4. people forget that Myron was a successful print journalist before he started focusing on the color commentary for the Steelers, and his radio talk show "Myron Cope - oooooooon sports" Again, he will truly be missed by the NFL

That story is collected on page 466 of "Sports Illustrated, Fifty Years of Great Writing". He was a very fine writer.

    I'm raising a Cope-ra-scope in one hand.

I will drink a shot and beer in his honor when I get home.

He was a joy to be around. When sportswriters got around to dipping into the memory bank and telling stories, few could top Myron.

If I had an Iron City in the frig, yes, I'd pop it open and drink to Myron.

    RIP.

Excellent work by Collier. He captured not only the things that made Cope famous, but the writing skills that most of his fans probably didn't even remember or know about.

As others have said, his writing prowess should not be forgotten today.

    First Heinz and now Cope.

    RIP from Pats Country.

I detect a little Myron Cope, along with the angry Truman Capote, in the voice of Eric Cartman. But people in the opposing jersey pissed him off a little more than French people.
Must check out his SI piece on Cosell - Mrs. T. just gave me that book for V-Day. Possible Florida reading next weekend.
