Are you guys seriously going to debate a claim from Alex Jones?

    Alex has a great voice.

But to answer your question, no. I thought he was killed soon as the news broke.

Just had an interesting little Facebook message back and forth with a recent former colleague (from a paper in another state), one who I think the world of. She began:

"Not sure if you're aware of this, but I was friends with Michael Hastings, and his family. He died in a drug-and-alcohol fueled bust of speed. His brothers had come out to LA to get him to put him in drug rehab, and he escaped from the house in the middle of the night. He drove into a tree when he was high and drunk. Sure, there are some inklings that he thought someone was watching him, but half of that was fueled by his addictions. He wasn't killed by anyone but himself. He wanted to die since his girlfriend died in Iraq. He had tremendous guilt and being around her family, who have never even attempted to adjust to her death didn't help."

I responded that the coroner said drugs played no part in the accident. That upset her. I said that we're journalists trained to be cynical until proven otherwise. That upset her again. I apologized for her loss and we left it at that.

Not sure what to think at this point.

I guess I would be worried about the safety of a Mercedes Benz that explodes on impact in a 35 MPH
    crash.

Who was the girlfriend? A reporter or service member?

Again so much for the renowned safety of a Benz.

Maybe the FBI was sniffing out Hastings?
