A woman sitting next to me in the juror waiting area yesterday was catching up on the news. She said "oh, Margaret Thatcher died" followed by "What movie did I see her in?" Before you ask, she was serious and she appeared to be old enough to have been an adult in the '80s.

Gorbachev and the Polish Labor Movement were the real heroes. They took all the risks. Reagan and Thatcher got better press because they spoke English to an English language press that wrote the first drafts of history to an English speaking audience. Reagan's military and civilian intelligence institutions missed it completely. Reagan was too focused on deficit spending to pad the pockets of the military contractors/ political contributors and golden parachute providers to the retired General Officer Corps to know what the hell to do. Star Wars, B1B, Intermediate range Ballistic Missiles and a bloated carrier based Navy killed the peace dividend. And The Reagan/Bush post-Wall policies kept Russia a third world economy with a 1st world military, thus allowing the oligarchs to seize the natural resources which gave us Putin.

No, I'll not slap Maggie and Ronnie on the back with a hardy, "Well Done". More like, "Thanks for fucking us all over with your antiquated views and desire to fight the cold war over and over".

BTW Reagan's little helpers, Cheney, 'Rumsfled', Rice and Powell surely fucked us over with their lies and wars and giving aid and comfort to terrorists.
Reagan begat Cheney who played right into OBL hands. OBL died laughing that he got the US to invade Iraq and had us have our own troops killed at a rate he never could.
