Was the winning pitcher in the Bobby Thomson game (finale of the 1951 NL playoff series.) Two-time NL All-Star and won 122 games in his career.

Cosby, an avid baseball fan, struck up a friendship with Jansen after his playing days. Jansen, who often attended Cosby's shows, would routinely give the comedian walnuts grown in Oregon.

Greene said Cosby, knowing Jansen was in failing health, called him Thursday. Jansen was unable to speak, but someone held the phone to his ear.

"(Cosby) said to Dad, 'If you don't get my walnuts to me, I'm going to come up there and bop ya,'" Darlene Greene said.

That's a great moment. This is why I love baseball; I was not familiar with Larry until I saw this post. Sounds like he was an above-average pitcher for the Giants.

And 10 children! God bless him.
