    1983 American League Cy Young Award winner LaMarr Hoyt died at 66.

    Gonna be honest here. I was under the mistaken belief he had died years ago.

    LaMarr Hoyt was a horse that year. You can make an argument that Dan Quisenberry was more deserving. Lower WHIP and way lower ERA.

    But you don't win 24 games without being durable and dominant, and Hoyt certainly was in 1983. In fact, no pitcher has exceeded that win total since and only five (Gooden 1985, Clemens 1986, Viola 1988, Smoltz 1996 and Johnson 2002) have matched it since. RIP.

    He did indeed. I missed that one.

    Another Cy Young winner who died way too young.
