RIP, Kevin Mitchell (the NFL linebacker)

An incredible number of players who played in the 1980s have passed on.

 

Entirely too many ... no cause currently given.

 

One can only hope the helmet technology will cut down the number of cases like his. No way it will eliminate it since players are still becoming bigger, faster and stronger.

 

That's crap. They get paid plenty. What comes after they retire, though, is criminal.

When these guys stop working out, they ballon. It's really very scary. I'm not sure if that was Mitchell's situation, but if Goddell was smart, he'd do something about prolonging the life expectancy of NFL players.

 

Is there anything else to this, like weight-related issues or any other possible factors that have been mentioned? Family history, etc?

I saw THIS Kevin Mitchell playing football since he was 15. So THIS was the Kevin Mitchell I think of first.
