I have since learned of his role in the civil rights movement but as a kid I knew him from hosting SNL in the early years. RIP

I remember him from the 1968 Democratic Convention. I think somebody tried to nominate him for Vice-President even though he was about seven years too young to be eligible. He had a dignity about him although he could be humorous as in the SNL entry. That was an example of Bond's ability to reach different types of people.

Stumbled upon the Buckley episode with Bond and John Lewis.

Bond was Obama before Obama but without the knowing professorial tone.

That's not a dig at Obama but I could listen to Bond talk all day.

    This quote stuck out:

"If I am a prophet of doom, as they think I am, then they are a little too much on the other side, and I can't help but think their optimism is a little more dangerous than my pessimism."
