Scout who discovered Nolan Ryan has died. RIP.

Sure, someone else might have discovered Ryan, but without Murff, I might not have been able to witness my favorite baseball player ever.

  2. I knew Red. First met him when I was about 10 or 11 years old at a Little League baseball game. He told me how much he liked my pitching, and we talked baseball for a solid hour. Talked to him on many occasions since.

An amazing man and a great baseball mind.

I thought about posting this, but didn't know if anyone would know who Red was. Thanks for posting it.

Thanks for the story and I'm glad I'm not the only one who understands that scouts do play a key role.

"All they do is watch baseball games" - the wisdom of Marge Schott...

actually Murff did follow Nolan Ryan closer than other scouts, some of whom saw him on a bad day, so credit is due.
