Led Stanford to back-to-back Rose Bowls in 1970-71, then coached the Broncos up until their first Super Bowl trip. Also had one last go-round at San Jose State in the mid-90s. Coaching tree includes Bill Walsh and Dick Vermeil.

Coached the Oakland Invaders in the USFL. Oddly enough - graduated from Cal then coached Stanford. Really did a solid job training future great coaches.

Ralston was fired in Denver because of a player revolt. But he brought in the defensive talent that took the Broncos to the Super Bowl in 1977 and served as the nucleus of some really good defenses for about eight years. The most prominent was Randy Gradishar but also Tom Jackson, Louis Wright, Rueben Carter, Steve Foley and Barney Chavous were all solid contributors for many years in Denver.
