Then again, there is utterly no reason for the family spokesman to lie in this case. I think it's more likely that sources may have misheard something. Of course, those sources will eventually be right, but perhaps not just yet.

I'd tend to agree with you. But the spokesman was pretty firm in his denial.

Then who will get the "first to report Paterno's death" trophy? Pretty despicable if you ask me, but that's just my opinion. I'm just one person.

Why lie? If Paterno is dead he's dead. Nothing is going to change that.

Jesus mother of God. Has our profession really come to this? Wooden. Gif fords. Dan Wheldon. Now this? I went hours not knowing if Giffords was dead or alive. Reputable outlets had her dead.

Unreal. If you do not KNOW someone is dead, do not write they are dead. Or retweet. Or anything. It ain't that fucking hard.

Well, we all know the Paternos are not great reporters.

CBSSports.com now attributing the report to a Penn State student website. That is pathetic work by CBS.

It's the same site they were citing previously.

EDIT: Onward State is a student site, mea culpa.
