He copied the schtick Bruce perfected on "Born to Run," but he did it great. And Meat Loaf was probably his perfect instrument.

He may have favored overwrought ballads, but he was a helluva producer. "Bat Out of Hell" was a great record.

    RIP.

Roy Bittan and Max Weinberg played on Bat Out of Hell and Total Eclipse of the Heart
Todd Rundgren produced Bat Out of Hell
Rick Derringer played on Faster Than the Speed of Night, the title track of the album Total Eclipse was on

Let’s be honest: Steinman wrote the perfect anthem for teenagers of the 1970s and 1980s. Paradise is the rare song (only song?) that tells the story of first time sex from both the male and female perspective, capturing the lust, anxiety and Phil Rizzuto of it all.

One other thing. Ellen Foley flat makes "Paradise" work on record, and migawd does she make the video work along with Meat Loaf.

Talk about Twenty Feet from Stardom.

Karla DeVito lip synched the video
    She became Mrs. Robby Benson

And Mick Jones of The Clash wrote “Should I Stay or Should I Go” about his relationship with Ellen Foley.
