Heard on the radio that Vegas will dim the lights to honor Tark. Radio made it sound like that hasn't happened very often. They gave a brief list, including honoring JFK.

One kind of ironic thing about Tark now, is that probably the vast majority of fans who followed college hoops from 1975-95 would consider him (along with Paul Westhead) the ultimate god of run-and-gun, fast-break, street-ball basketball -- but when he was at Long Beach State, he was actually known for playing a pack-it-in 2-3 zone and a mid-tempo control offense.

When he went to Vegas he felt he had to establish a flashy style to sell tickets in addition to simply winning games, so he adopted the fast-break philosophy.

Tark wrote a couple of coaching textbooks that came out, or were updated, around the period he made this wholesale change in style, so a huge section of the book covers brute-force pack-it-in zone defense and rebounding, and other sections go into great detail on the fast break, pushing the tempo, and the full-court man-to-man run-and-jump press. (This was before he became a big proponent of the 'amoeba' defense.)

According to AP, the list includes Elvis, Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Reagan as well.
