Longtime outdoors writer at the Long Beach (Calif.) Press Telegram Jed Welsh passed away Sunday at age 98.

He was still writing his weekly column as late as 2004 when I left the paper. His wife would type his columns and we'd have to retype it into the system every Tuesday.

Nice man, good old fisherman. Wonder what the PT desk guys did on Tuesday without a Jed column to type into the system. RIP

I hope I'm so lucky to make it to age 98. I can see myself in the year 2070, still hammering out columns on my wireless laptop while all the young whippersnappers are using their built-in brain interfaces to "think" it in.
