I sent the text to my wife about it at 7:33, while standing in line for food and seeing the thread here.

First remember seeing him in A Civil Action. Did a great job as one of the parents suing the companies polluting the wells.

Talk about how time flies. Ritter died Sept. 11, 2003. . . almost 10 years ago.

It seems like yesterday that Carlin passed and it has been five years. . . June 22, 2008.

    Wow.

Same day as Johnny Cash, right? I recall that my paper put Ritter on A1 and Cash inside. Not a popular choice among many of us.

Carlin's death didn't shock me nearly as much after watching his last HBO special about four months prior. Judging by his subject matter and tone you could feel him saying, "Pay attention, folks, because I ain't gonna' be here very soon."

He was also in Get Shorty with Travolta, pre Sopranos.

8 month old child, thats the most depressing fact

Yeah, the day my own dad died and 9/11 both hit me just a bit harder. Among other days.

Carlin was also in his 70s and had had three heart attacks, so his death wasn't anywhere near this shocking.

Mentioned his heavy breathing to my wife last night and wondered if that was just good acting since he didn't do it in other parts or was it indeed part of being unhealthy.

    Star-Ledger's FB page:

ong before James Gandolfini starred in "The Sopranos" he was a student at Park Ridge High School, where he played basketball and acted in theatrical productions. Here's a gallery of some of his yearbook photos.

Went to a deli for lunch and they were selling a Bada-bing sandwich in honor of James. Lots of people were buying it. One guy told me he had to buy it because "Tony is like family."

    Strange times.
