I believe rule changes and changes in teaching are a big factor in lowering risk factors.

From what they were saying on the radio, Tatum went to Stingley's house to visit and apologize.
Except he brought a camera crew with him.

Has anyone mentioned that the Stingley hit was in a pre-season game?

    Can't hold that against Tatum.

I think 93D's point is that the preseason has devolved to the point where the concept of stars--or even starters--playing long enough to injure one another is incomprehensible.

I believe 1978 was the last season of SIX preseason games. SIX.

But that is another reason Tatum was so villified...it was only an exhibition game, he shouldnt have been playing that hard

Come on Spnited that was a different era. When Tatum stepped on a football field he only knew how to play one way.

In the pre-season you tackle a player. You don't try to take his head off.

It's the same in a blowout game during the regular season. You want everyone to stay healthy.

Just curious - how old were you in 1978?

The quickest way to get injured playing a contact sport is taking it easy.
