I can't tell you how much I love the Wallander series. Reading Mankell has made Scandinavia my #1 bucket list destination.

Damn, a Swedish womn in my office (who read them in Swedish) got me into Mankell about 5-6 years ago and I devoured every one of his books. Damn, that's way too early. Hope his family life was better than Wallander's.

If you really love the genre, try to get hold of all the books by Maj Sjowall and Per Wahloo. Great stuff.

I would add Jo Nesbø (Norway) and Arnaldur Indriðason (Iceland) to that list as well.

Wallender and Harry Hole (Nesbo) were great characters. And interestingly their creators were not afraid to kill them off by Alzhimers (Wallender) or murder (Hole).
